Nebraska Wildlife Rehab, Inc. would not exist without your generosity. Please consider making a donation today to help us rehabilitate our wild neighbors, educate the public and to move into a Home of Our Own. If you are interested in funding a special project or donating supplies, please read on to find out more!
Contributions from the public help offset the expenses incurred by our volunteers. Tax-deductible donations help meet the financial costs of veterinary care, medication, diet and housing for our wildlife rehabilitation patients. We also accept donations of services and goods. Planned giving can be arranged to meet your individual needs.
NWRI is desperately in need of a
commercial storage space to handle our supplies until we move into our own building. If you or someone you know can provide a space for free or at a discounted rate, or if you are willing to donate funds towards a rental, please contact Laura Stastny at 960-4366 or
nebraskawildlife@yahoo.com.
Nebraska Wildlife Rehab, Inc. is a home-based, all-volunteer organization. We could not operate without the extreme generosity of your volunteers -- But there are limits to what a home-based organization can accomplish. We know that without
"A Home of Our Own" NWRI will not be able to grow to meet the needs of our community. Please visit

If you are interested in funding a
special project, we have several educational programs for which we are seeking funding, including our
Bat Books for Schools program, our
High School Prairie Restoration Project, and our
Schoolyard Outdoor Science Classroom program in partnership with the Underwood Hills Focus School in Omaha. If you are interested in contributing to any of these projects, please contact Laura Stastny at 960-4366 or

Bat Books for Schools
We are working with the South Dakota Bat Working Group (SDBWG) on a new project with a goal to provide elementary school libraries across the Omaha metro area with a 12-volume set of books about these fascinating creatures that live in our state and around the world. These books are provided at no cost to the schools. This program is made possible via private and corporate donations and a special arrangement with the publisher who offered the SDBWG book program a 50% discount off their regular list price. There are no administrative costs, as NWRI volunteers are handling the distribution of books to the district. Donations to the project are welcome in any amount, but those wishing to sponsor a complete set of the books can specify the recipient library if they choose. The cost of a complete 12-volume set plus shipping is $105.00. We are first focusing this program on the Omaha Public School District which has 60 elementary schools. The cost to furnish books for the entire district will be $6,300.
High School Prairie Restoration Project
The Prairie Habitat Restoration and Education Project is designed by environmental and education experts and will be implemented in biology classrooms at Central High School in Omaha. In cooperation with professors and students from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, high school biology students and volunteers will learn about Nebraska's native prairies, their importance, and how they can work to restore and maintain these ecological treasures. Once classroom curriculum and hands-on field experience and research has been completed, the teachers, high school students and volunteers will restore a land parcel outside of Plattsmouth in eastern Nebraska to natural prairie habitat themselves. Each year, new students will join the program to maintain the existing restored prairie and expand the project into other areas of the region and state. This land parcel, and future areas of restored prairie, will serve as permanent outdoor biology classrooms for Omaha Public School students. As this project expands, we hope to include other OPS high schools in hands-on prairie restoration as well. This project will not only restore native prairie in Nebraska and create new habitat for important native plant and animal species, it will also provide Nebraska students with the intellectual and hands-on skills needed to become good stewards of the earth and our natural environment.
The total cost of this project will be approximately $50,000 over three years; however, 1/3 of the costs have already been committed by our collaborating partners. We need to raise approximately $15,000 for the first year and $10,000 per year for the second and third years to make this program a success.
Schoolyard Outdoor Science Classroom
This project is being launched in Omaha in partnership with the Underwood Hills Focus School, a one-of-a-kind focus school in the Omaha Learning Community. The staff of the Underwood Hills Focus School and NWRI volunteers will implement a curriculum to educate students about native wildlife and ecosystems, including the importance of habitat and how its destruction and restoration impacts biodiversity on all levels. The students will then create their own outdoor science classroom on school grounds and include habitat through the building of bat and bird houses, and the planting of a large area of native flora that provide food and shelter for wildlife. Not only will this project create habitat on the school grounds for migratory birds and other wildlife, but the resulting habitat area will serve as a permanent outdoor science classroom directly on school property for future students and educators. Our goal is to implement a project that will result in study, discussion and planning that can positively affect the environment and the health and well-being of society. This project starts from the ground up. It works with young students, teaching them that their actions do have an impact on the world around them, and encourages hands-on, grassroots effort to effect change in their community. The cost of this program will be approximately $5,000-$7,500.
